What is Embodied Executive Presence (EEP)?


EEP describes a way of being which is characterized by a strong Directive Energy. Others FEEL your grounded presence and orient towards you. And you have a natural ability to catalyze others to action through sharp and clear communication.

In my experience, there are three types of people that need to develop their EEP:

  • Asserting your ideas, influencing, and being a big presence in meetings is challenging. As a result, you get overlooked at times.

  • You got promoted on the strength of your technical skills, but now need to learn to lead and influence others

  • Work feels like a constant battle of ideas and personalities. The interpersonal striving and conflict wear you out.


The blocks you experience in these scenarios are not cognitive - they are down at the nervous system level and rooted in anxiety. The only effective approach is an EMBODIED one. One that cultivates the primal and intangible energetics of a great leader, rather than just a mental path of learning new "management skills".

It starts with two inner qualities that you can actively cultivate: Groundedness and Clarity.

Groundedness occurs as stillness and a deliberate, choiceful way of being. It is neither reactive, nor impulsive. You build this capacity by settling and grounding your nervous system through the regular practice of specialized embodiment practices.

Clarity is the quality of an inner “knowing” that manifests externally as unambiguous communication and a natural capacity to catalyze others into action. Together, we will explore all of the ways that you can bring more clarity to yourself and others at work.

When you install these qualities into your way of being, you'll find yourself naturally exuding more Directive Energy and Embodied Executive Presence(™).

The Work

Groundedness

Someone who is grounded feels solid and trustable. They respond rather than react. They're assertive in expressing their viewpoint. They act out of intention rather than trying to please others. They speak judiciously rather than ramble. They can receive feedback and criticism without getting defensive.

Anxiety is the enemy to overcome here. It can arise within you (subtly or intensely) in a variety of situations common to corporate life. When it does, it can take you out of your power and groundedness.

Embodiment is the answer. It involves the regular practice of exercises that incorporate elements of meditation, movement, visualization, and breathwork. They are designed to help ground and settle you at the nervous system level, where trauma and anxiety reside. The work we do together here will increase your capacity for interpersonal intensity, so you're less prone to defensiveness and conflict, and also a lot more relaxed (which is great for job satisfaction and retention!).

Clarity

From this grounded state, freed from anxiety and self-doubt, we will then start to explore the places in your work where you can bring more Clarity to your work. Some examples include learning to:

  • Have a clear vision for yourself and your team

  • Speak your truth, and speak more succinctly

  • Give and receive hard feedback

  • Ruthlessly organize your time and priorities


Our work will consist of 1) me giving your reflection on how you occur in the world, 2) regular embodiment practice, and 3) coaching on how you can bring more clarity to yourself and others.

There are many executive presence approaches out there. Almost all of them are mental. I will bring you something different from the worlds of somatics and polarity, something your peers and competitors won't have.




Whom Am I?

I spent over 20 years in Product Management, Product Marketing, and Sales roles in Silicon Valley at big companies, hot startups, and an angel-funded company that I founded. After a few exits, I found that my excitement about technology was fading, and my interest in interpersonal relating was rapidly growing.

I've also spent 15 years in deep study of the realms of Embodiment, Meditation, Authentic Relating and Masculine/Feminine Polarity. For years I've taught men and women to use Embodiment and Polarity to strengthen their relationships at home. I've authored one book on relationship, and another on embodiment.

In recent years, I've melded these two worlds into Embodied Executive Presence to help anyone in the corporate world, independent of their place in the organization, to strengthen their Directive Energy. This is not the cognitive learning that most executive presence resources use. This is an EMBODIED experience, which means that we address the nervous system directly rather than via mental learning.

I work with individuals in weekly or bi-weekly 1:1 sessions. We do embodiment practice and clarity coaching.

Private Group Embodiment Practice Sessions

We schedule a weekly embodiment practice session that is only open to YOUR company's employees. We do a 20+ minute embodiment practice, followed by a short Q&A.

Public Speaking Coaching
